Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He to whom Allah intends good, He grants him understanding of the religion.”
Indications of the Hadith and Extracted Benefits:
- Sign of Divine Guidance: Understanding the religion is not merely recalling rulings; rather, it is a deep comprehension of Allah’s intent and the application of His law, and it is proof of Allah’s love for His servant.
- Inclusivity of the word (Good): The word came in an indefinite form to indicate generality; meaning immense, absolute good in this world and the Hereafter.
- Action accompanying knowledge: True understanding is that which is followed by action and fear of Allah, as Imam Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: “Indeed, the jurist is the one who abstains from the world, desires the Hereafter.”
