Golden Rules for Memorizing the Quran and Preventing Forgetfulness:
Memorizing the Noble Quran is a great blessing, but the greatest challenge lies in retaining it and protecting it from being forgotten. Here are the most prominent scientific rules to ensure the retention of your memorization:
- Revision takes precedence over new memorization: The golden rule states: “A small, consistent deed is better than a large, interrupted one.” Allocate time for daily revision before starting to memorize new parts.
- Connecting verses and meanings: Understanding the contexts of revelation and the general meanings of the verses helps the mind make smooth connections between the endings of verses and the beginnings of the ones that follow them.
- Reciting in prayers: Using the newly memorized verses in voluntary prayers and night prayers (Qiyam) helps strengthen and secure the memorization.
- Spaced repetition: Reviewing the new portion multiple times throughout the day and at different times firmly embeds the memorization into long-term memory.
